This trio stirs the gruff and tough realms of hard core rock with driving power chords and building beats. Driven by razor-sharp guitar, "Belief" and "Beast" emulate the maximum fury of classic heavy metal while impressing with its tight cohesiveness. A catchy bass riff and funky guitar gets the groove going on "Can't Go," with its flashback to the days of the '70's. Returning with "The Jungle or the Stars," an 11-song collection of smart and catchy, guitar-driven alternative pop/rock, the Chicago-based quartet, Ballistic Edna, delivers another CD that succeeds as both a follow-up and as a stand-alone album. "What Was That" opens the album with a power-chord manifesto that features a big, Bangles-like chorus as their two female singers blend voices with an ease that's extremely precise. Also recalling The Bangles, "Hallowed Ground" is a terrific rocker with a dead-on hook, while "Woman" thunders like a long-lost Heart out-take. Elsewhere, "Soulseeker" finds the band playing with Middle Eastern modalities without losing their fundamental rock ethos; experimentation not unlike the early-period of the group REM. Album closer, "Camera" in fact, takes the experimentation a step further, as the band explores an ambient mood that perhaps, suggests a new direction for the band. RadioIndy is pleased to present Robert R. Patterson with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Never Said Good Bye "

Robert R. Patterson's second CD, "Never Said Good Bye" finds the guitarist / singer-songwriter furthering an exploration of his unique songcraft in ways as original and inventive as they are satisfying. A virtuoso on guitar, Patterson turns his acoustic and electric guitars loose over 12 songs that delve into classical, folk, and blues influences which, nevertheless, blend seamlessly into a whole of potent musicality. Where the song "Five Dollar Mohawk" is a blues-rock workout with slashing slide licks, the hauntingly beautiful "Smile Little One" features acoustic picking as delicate as it is pristine. "Little Spanish Evening," an acoustic solo instrumental, is a veritable wordless lullaby, while the CD opener and titled track, "Never Said Good Bye" is an oddly effective composition that's both exotic and eccentric. Much of the album finds Patterson in elemental mode, his lone guitar and rich voice breathing life into songs of loss and redemption, but on the ballad, "Life," a deep and sonorous cello accompaniment raises the performance to solemnity. As second releases go, Robert R Patterson's "Never Said Good Bye" CD is a fine sophomore album, building on the echoes of his first, while pointing forward with his evolving potential.

Vocalist Connie Strange whips up a fantastic album, filled with gospel, blues, country, and even the slightest touch of jazz in her newest effort, "Fire…Brimstone & Love." The lead off track states what the entire CD has to offer with "He Said," an eclectic mix of blues and gospel spreading the word of God. Strange wasn't being clever when she named the disc "Fire…Brimstone & Love" for no reason. Although most of the songs are upbeat with a faith based message, tracks like "Are You Ready" talk about death and when the time comes, He will take you away… that is, if you are ready. A hidden gem on this album is Strange's cover of Louie Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World." We have all heard this done by so many, but Strange throw hers country/gospel flare into the mix and creates a great atmosphere with a song that could have easily fallen flat amongst a million other versions floating around in record stores. Gospel and country music fanatics will really enjoy "Fire…Brimstone & Love" and it may just get you to church on Sunday!

RadioIndy is pleased to present Al Sofia with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Destiny"

Talented vocalist Al Sofia shares his love for pop/easy listening music with his latest disc, "Destiny." With hints of Bobby Darin and Michael Buble, Sofia delivers an exceptional disc of both originals and cover songs. The title track "Destiny" shows his knack for creative songwriting and has that Philadelphia soul vibe to it. Although the album does feature some great original work, it is Sofia's covers that really shine through. Taking someone else's music and making it your own is never easy, but Sofia does it with ease on songs such as "You Raise Me Up" (popularized by Josh Groban). There are also some jazzy takes on well known Broadway numbers like "Seasons of Love" from the musical Rent and "It's Possible" from Suessical. "Destiny" is a great album for any fan of Hall & Oates or Michael Buble and is well worth listening to.

"Crazy Kind of love" By Winslow is a fantastic mix of pop,rock and funk that is a true breath of fresh air, as it is truly innovative and against the norm. The album starts off with the stellar track "Breakdown." Good choice in leading off the CD. As soon as you pop this bad boy in, Winslow hits you with a funky slap bass line that assures you that Winslow isn't some generic rock band. "Control" is the standout track on the album and is very rememinencent of bands like Maroon 5 and Red Hot chili Peppers. The bass work on this album is amazing. as well as the horn section. The combination of the two really make this album jump into drive. The album is chock full of great musicianship from every member and is real treat for anyone looking to get away from the norm and lose yourself in the grooves. Be sure to check this one out regardless of what kind of music you are into, as it has a special quality that appeals to many genres. If you are a fan of funked out bass licks and high energy grooves, get ready to bug out with Winslow.

"Moon in the Afternoon" is a guitar-driven pop rock album from talented singer/songwriter Bo Blider and the Bo Blider Band. In crafting his sound, Blider draws from a number of genres, from '70s rock to blues to folk to reggae to '90s pop. The result is twelve timeless tracks with poppy lyrics, catchy choruses, and a great melodic sound. The Bo Blider Band's arrangements are tight and skillfully done, with great guitar work, including great acoustic progressions, electric solos, and funky basslines. Blider clearly draws from his experience in John Lennon and The Beatles tribute bands for both his sound and vocal performances. As a result, he sounds similar to Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Billy Joel. "Moon in the Afternoon" also has a great production quality and a clean, polished sound. "Chit Chat Chum" begins with a great guitar lick that quickly becomes the underlying rhythm of the entire song, coupled with quirky and memorable lyrics. "Shame On You" is a finger-snapping blues track with great piano, bass, and guitar arrangements and more great lyrics. "Moon in the Afternoon" is an album that really puts Bo Blider on display as a talented, true-to-his-roots singer/songwriter. Fans of Beatles-influenced '70s rock fused with '90s pop, check out the Bo Blider Band.

If you are looking for that old Chicago blues sound than "Under The Blues Sky" the latest CD by Ron McManaman should be next on your album shopping list. McManaman's vocals really stand out as they have that gritty and lazy John Lee Hooker style to them. His lyrics also speak a certain sadness and truth to the listener's ears (you can tell this guy has been around for a long time). "Ain't Gonna Change My Heart" oozes that classic Fender Stratocaster blues tone and features some tasty but not too flashy guitar work by McManaman. The artist also stays true to the Chicago blues with "Sitting Under the Blues Sky" a song Muddy Waters or Willie Dixon would have been proud to call their own. The disc has raw and from-the-gut production giving it an authentic blues sound.

KC Williams has released his latest CD "The Best of KC Williams" featuring a fine collection of his best work. Well rooted in the world of country music, Williams is a stand out performer and has played with some of the finest musicians in this genre. The "The Best of KC Williams" highlights his most notable tracks including songs like "1-800 I'm a Fool" or "Beauty's in the Eye of the Beerholder" and "Honky Tonk Hilton." All of these numbers captures the classic country ambiance and hilarious amusing titles to go with them. Williams brings everything down a notch, with a sweet ballad perfect for any Tim McGraw fan. Another song worth mentioning is "Without you (I'm Just an Ordinary Man)" for it has some excellent pedal steel guitar playing. The album isn't entitled the "Best Of" for no reason; it's the best of what Williams has to offer and then some.

"Christmas Is Easy When Love's Around" by Tey is a refreshing adaptation of traditional holiday songs. Tey has taken these holiday songs to a new level by adding her own vocal style with influences of easy listening pop/rock. The vocals are clean and crisp, yet emotional and soulful with great consistency throughout the entire album. A great example of this soulful and edgy vocal spirit can be heard on "Jingle Bell Rock". Additionally the track showcases the diversity of rock style musicians playing with steady drum beats and biting guitar licks. Pastor Jason Hatfield has broken the mold of conventional praise and worship with his impressive release "Spirit Groove." As the title suggests, Hatfield's vision is to uplift the spirit with a musical groove. "Rain" is a tastefully funky opener, setting the tone for an energetic listening experience. The production is clean and professional, characterized by wonderfully layered vocals over a rhythmic backdrop provided by fantastic musicians on live instruments. "Oneman" is the appropriately titled new release from Michigan based one-man-band Todd Bendler, also known as "Brother Todd." His humble, haunting vocal style lingers in the lower register, giving this album a deep, dark and unique quality. His storytelling lyrics are thought provoking, inspirational, and at times humorous, giving the listener a distinct look into his personality. The entire album is written and produced by Todd, composing the songs on the piano and guitar and then adding the vocals, drum parts and additional parts if needed. Todd also plays all the instruments on each track apart from "You Lift Me Up" and "Gunslinger," where Guy Hedrick plays lead guitar. His music is honest and uplifting with many lyrics about the struggles of everyday life, where Todd offers inspiration. Listen to the heartening "You Lift Me Up" and moving "Dance My Dance." Another highlight is "Little Boy," which features a percussive groove and showcases Frost's ability to blend harmony and melody so beautifully. Randy has all the elements in place with great melodies, harmonies, arrangements and performances. Rusty's voice leads the pack with conviction and his song writing ability is superior. Everything seems to fall into place and the result for the listener is a compilation that will spin in your player for years to come. Highlights are the title track "Till The Fat Lady Sings" and "Will You Be My Girl." It is no doubt the title track features a solid arrangement, catchy lyrics and some fantastic harmony in the backing vocals. "Will You Be My Girl" slows things down a bit with a beautiful piano progression. It then evolves into a powerful, heartfelt ballad led by a soulful vocal performance. "My Island & Me" has a great carefree quality to it as it cleverly borders on island music in the arrangement. Fans of country-pop music should definitely pick up "Till The Fat Lady Sings."

"No Easy Way" is a noteworthy release by Chicago jazz singer/songwriter Jean Laughlin, who is known for her broad vocal abilities and incredibly personal style. The writing is skillful and intelligent with fresh, clever arrangements. She is backed by an incredible orchestra of talented musicians featuring brilliant soloists and swinging horn sections. The rhythm section is fabulous, setting up and emphasizing the ensemble figures with ease while also providing wonderful support throughout. "Open" is a sincere and genuine opener with honest lyrics and Laughlin singing straight from the heart. Another heartfelt track is "Moment to Moment," which not only touches on the struggles of everyday life, but also offers inspiration. Her personality and individuality shine through on each tune, from her fun sense of humor on "Party Down" and "Lookin' at the Downside" to her warm, smoky style on the ballads "Sad Eyes," "Cast Away," and "Home ( a lullaby)." One ballad that really stands out is the touching "Friendships Broken," featuring an illustrious string arrangement and passionate vocals. Another excellent track is the lively "Simplify," with her vocals dancing atop the rhythmic figures of the horn section and Laughlin again showcasing her humorous side. This album is highly recommended for any fan of adult contemporary vocalists and/or big band music.

"After the Storm" by Lightnin Rod and The Thunderbolts is true classic blues gem. From front to back the album just screams old school blues with amazing licks, strutting bass lines and beats that swagger. The definitely features a full sound with great female backing vocals and sultry saxophone work thrown into the mix. The album also sounds great, with great care taken in amplifying a great natural guitar tone and shaping a great sound around it. The album comes out of the gates strong with "Close To You," a track that encompasses each and every element of the bands frill-less sound and concept. "Bring you back Home" opens with a wicked guitar intro, gritty vocals and great female back up vocals. The standout track on his album has to be "Narcissistic Fool", which features a slick guitar riff, a fantastic plucky bass line and great sax accents. If you are a fan of artists like JJ Cale, Eric Clapton or BB King this is a must pick up. It stands alone as a truly Professional sounding album with some very well written songs and a very talented band to boot.

"Pictures Of You" is a brit rock influenced Detroit rock album brought to you by authentic Motor City rockers The Romeo Flynns. The combination of these styles is nothing less than electric. The sound is, of course, heavily guitar driven, with thick beats, big choruses and an arena mentality. This album is a definite party package, with 13 solid speaker pumping tracks - frills and overproduction not included. There is also a subtle element of 50's rebel rock present, which supports an already angst-filled sound. The album is well produced, sounds great, and really lends itself to the "loudness" of the sound. The title track "Pictures Of You" gets the album going with a bang and really defines the Brit/Detroit rock fusion. "Gonna Feel Alright" features that 50's element and will absolutely rock your world with a huge chorus and additional support from horns, keys and organ. "Just Fade Away" is another highlight, with a quirky 80's guitar riff and a strong melodic chorus that will most certainly drive the ladies wild. If you like Detroit Rock, Brit Rock and the huge sound that comes with it, give "Pictures Of You" a spin. You won't be disappointed.

"Contemporary Country Classics, Volume 3" is the third installment of singer/professor Distillery Dave's covers of classic country songs that bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary country music. Distillery Dave fashions his sound with crooning vocals at once similar to Conway Twitty and George Strait. In addition, well layered arrangements with piano, steel guitar, violin, and great backing female vocals round out the sound. Many of these elements are true to the traditional country form, though Dave adds modern elements with contemporary arrangements and rock-influenced guitar solos. The lyrics these classics offer are timeless, witty and clever, often adding an aura of humor to otherwise sad songs about love and heartbreak, loneliness and drinking. The production quality of "Contemporary Country Classics, Volume 3" sounds great and professional, simultaneously true to the traditional and modern country sounds. Conway Twitty's "Somebody's Needin' Somebody" opens the album and features that subtle interplay of witty humor and sadness, great vocal layering and backing female vocals, and a catchy chorus. "That's the Way Love Goes" is a song about finding and keeping love popularized by Merle Haggard that invokes cliché images of luckiness , horseshoes, rainbows and four-leaf clovers. Overall, "Contemporary Country Classics, Volume 3" is a solid and enjoyable album that takes country classics and intelligently refashions them to combine traditional country music with contemporary country music. Fans of either of these genres interested in witnessing their interplay should give Distillery Dave a listen.

"Welcome 2 Kansas" by Krayz E' is a unique hip-hop album put together by an innovative artist. The sound is a mix of new and old and bumps from beginning to end. There is a definite carefree mentality present in the concept, but don't be fooled, Krazy means business. He laces his smooth delivery around well produced and well layered arrangements with ease. This is a seriously crafted album with a positive feel. The beats will vibrate your insides, the bass lines groove, and the album sounds fantastic - with 17 tracks to boot. Highlights are "Kansas," reeling you in right off the bat with a huge beat and giving you your first taste of what to expect through the rest of the journey. "Hatin' On Me" features a bubbly, groovy bass line, lamenting lyrics and a nice vocal performance. "Do What I Do" is simpler in nature, but hits you with a classic throwback beat, that might bring back a few memories. If you enjoy classic hip hop with modern innovations and an upbeat sensibility, you'll like this one.

"Cocky (Da Original 1)" is a three-track hip-hop/party EP from Detroit's own T Stuckey. This youngster comes at you with a ton of muscle. His vocals are full of energy and jump out of the speakers at you. The production behind these tracks is equally impressive, and they are club ready and flat out thump. The arrangements are diverse, well-layered and full. The choice in overall sound also compliments T Stuckey's style very well. Leading off is "I'm Cocky," a light but powerful introduction to the T Stuckey's style featuring a fantastic hook and tons of attitude. "The Playground Legend" is youthfully inspirational, incorporates the great sound into a fun and innocent story, and feautres a great flow from T Stuckey. "Do Ya Thing" wraps things up nicely with a fantastic display of production excellence. If you like well-produced hip-hop albums and want to hear this kid give the big boys a run for their money, pick this EP up.

Garfan's "Family Affair" is a high energy alternative rock album highlighted with the impressive female vocals of Katie Preston. This album is a nice throwback for those who remember when rock & roll meant something. The clean production on this album works well for this genre, and allows the driving rhythm section, which makes your head nod and foot tap, cut through the mix. The songs on "Family Affair" all have a great rock feel and are carried by catchy lyrics you'll be singing along to in no time. The heavy drum pattern and melodic guitar work on "Dwell" is reminiscent of such female fronted rock bands as Fleetwood Mac and Jefferson Airplane. "Had to Die" takes a much different approach than most of the rest of the album, with a heavy Rage Against the Machine kind of guitar riff and soulful lyrics. Overall this is a great effort from an up-and-coming band, especially for fans of bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Blind Melon and newer alternative rock bands such as Flyleaf.

"Close the Door" is the upbeat sophomore effort from contemporary pop country artist Tracylyn. Tracylyn gives a powerful vocal performance with a country twang similar to vocalists such as Faith Hill and Martina McBride. Her backing band is sound and creates solid arrangements that incorporate the violin, piano, and steel guitar into nearly every track complimenting Tracylyn's vocals quite well. The songs are generally up-tempo and are about love, faith and small town life. The lyrics are memorable and the songs are all extremely catchy. The recording quality is very good with a polished vocal sound and clarity of each individual instrument. "Maybe I Made You Up" is a psychological song about falling in love, with a nice melody, a catchy chorus and some nice guitar work. The title track, "Close the Door" is the sole downtempo track on the album, a slow piano ballad with powerful lyrics about a former significant other's "infidelity." Overall, "Close the Door" is a fun album with an impressive vocal performance from Tracylyn, true-to-life lyrics, and great arrangements. Fans of female vocalists and contemporary pop country won't "Close the Door" on Tracylyn.

"This is a Test" is a six-track funk EP from Solution that fuses their underlying funk sound with rock, pop, reggae and jazz. Solution is a musically sound group and shows their range by innovating their sound with each track. The lead singer has a naturally soothing voice similar to Phish vocalist Trey Anastasio, but his range will remind the listener of such bands as Wilco, Murder by Death and Primus - depending on the track. The lyrics are socially conscious, as "No Surprise" reminds the listener that "Around the world people are hungry" and asks, "Will reality just simply fall away?" "This is a Test" is well-recorded, but pushes the envelope as far as conventionality is concerned. "Hide Away" begins with a gristly, raw piano and flows into a sharp, crisp sound soon thereafter, indicating that Solution made a conscious effort to do so. "Hot Sauce" nicely fuses Solution's funk sound with jazz by incorporating jazzy flute, piano and horns with an outstanding funky bass beat. "Dig" is a fast-paced song with an overall funky beat and fast lyrics of which Les Claypool would be proud. "This is a Test" is a fun album with impressive and broad musicianship, nice vocals, and meaningful lyrics. For anyone in search of a good new funk album, here's your Solution.

Bryan Austin's "Realizing the Dream" is a traditional gospel album from a talented singer with a tremendous amount of faith. Bryan's journey is a passionate one. Austin approaches every song differently and puts everything he has into his performance. He has an impressive vocal range and belts it out with passion, raw emotion, and intimacy to the likes of Aaron Neville and Luther Vandross. Austin bares himself to his audience hoping the audience will, in turn, bear witness to the spiritual presence of the Lord. The arrangements are simple and could all be intimated inside a house of the Lord since Austin treats each track like a soulful gospel hymn. It's all about good old fashioned praise. The recording quality of "Realizing the Dream" nicely matches the rawness of Austin's vocal performance and doesn't rely on any effects to be effective. Highlights include "The Anchor Holds," which gives you a first taste of Austin's talent as a vocalist and really kicks off the journey. "Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus" features some nice harmony and layering in the vocals and plays on a familiar song of patriotism. "Were You There" wraps things up with a nice guitar progression and beautiful female backing vocals. If you enjoy good ol' fashioned, soulful gospel, give "Realizing the Dream" a listen.

Seventeenth Parallel shares their faith with you in the form of southern hard rock with this self-titled album. The power of this band is evident from the get go with a full sound, noteworthy lyrics, and an inspirational passion. The songs all have a great arena quality that makes you want to see the band live. The vocal performance is reminiscent of the southern alternative rock sound of the late '90s from the likes of 3 Doors Down and Creed. Musically, Seventeenth Parallel performs at a high skill level and the entire band is tight, so the arrangements are all solid, catchy, and immediately reel you in. The album is well mixed, putting the vocals right up front and allowing all the instruments to cut through the mix. "Heart Worn Sleeve" is an aptly titled, impressive blues/folk album from B.B. Wolfe. THe CD also showcases the Goldmine Pickers, who bring a slight country flavor to the album as well. The album is stripped down, relying solely on purely acoustic instruments – guitar, banjo, violin, and accordion – to back his sad, storytelling lyrics. Wolfe's lyrics portray a sense of longing, of lost love, of sorrow and sadness, and are the most defining quality of the album. His raspy vocals combined with his folk sound, reliance on acoustic instruments, and longing lyrics, should remind the listener of the classic Dylan album, "Another Side of Bob Dylan." The recording quality is very good as well. Wolfe longs for what could have been on the track "Something Tells Me It's Not True" when he sings, "I've been holding onto this old guitar/I should have been holding you." "In Three-Quarter Time" incorporates the accordion into Wolfe's musical styling, and the song title itself should imply that he knows what he's doing musically. "Heart Worn Sleeve" is an excellent album that displays B.B. Wolfe's powerful storytelling capabilities and should be looked into by anyone who enjoys a good blues/folk/country fusion.

"Driven" by Jordan Biel is an upbeat Christian Rock album aimed at inspiring faith in Jesus Christ. The band features a healthy lineup of musicians that bring the sound to a great level of fullness. The melodies in the vocals definitely stand out, and the songs are very catchy and have a great sing-along quality. The arrangements vary nicely from track to track and offer a nice variance in song structure. Above all, the album creates an undeniable energy and displays a great amount of passion. The production value is also very good: All aspects of the sound are well represented. Highlights are "With You" which opens the album with a catchy guitar riff, fun vocal pacing and an addicting chorus. "Worthy Is The Lamb" features a delicate organ progression and intimate vocals. "Freedom To Worship" opens with a thick guitar riff and erupts into a powerful, driving song that is fit for an arena-sized venue. If you enjoy songs of praise and a big sound, you will enjoy this excellent CD.

"She's In Love with a Rodeo Man" features a memorable vocal performance by Casey, nicely complemented by rich harmonies on the memorable chorus, and some nice slide guitar and piano fills. "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" features some excellent guitar work and some nice honkey-tonk piano fills. If you enjoy good old-fashion country music sung and performed by seasoned veterans, this is it. "Fragile" by Bo Ramsey is an excellent Americana, folk rock CD full of tracks that paint vivid pictures around Bo's excellent songwriting. Bo's deep, raspy vocals nicely stand out in the mix and softly, yet effectively deliver the powerful lyrics on this CD. As you would expect from an artist with Bo's impressive credentials, this CD is totally pro in musicianship and production. The music features Bo's outstanding, yet subtle guitar work. The production nicely layers the instrumentation to provide a rich, deep sound. The tracks that we checked out have an ambience of a smoke-filled room and a man who has been there and done that. "Tell Me Now" features some nice electric guitar licks, and a powerful, visual lyrical message that paints a gloomy picture. "Burn It Down" features an interesting tremolo guitar sound, outstanding songwriting and a passionate vocal performance that effectively delivers the strongly visual lyrics. If you enjoy Americana and/or adult folk rock, and the work of master songwriters, you'll enjoy this CD.

"Pop The Cork" by Static Paradise doesn't mess around. We're talking straight up rock with no funny business. Alright, maybe a litle funny business. It's all about hooks, riffs and lyrical debauchery with this band. The musicianship is superior, with some great guitar work and steady beats. The overall sound of the album is raw. You'll hear some guitars buzzin' from time to time. It's a fun ride, for sure. "Judgement Day" leads things off with heavy guitars and a big Southern attitude. Another notable is "Temptation," moving from a traditional blues riff into an "walk in the clouds" feel with heavenly female backups. "Sacred Cow" wraps things up, taking you to outer space with a drum machine, synths and a sitar/guitar. If you like The Stones on a bender with Sonic Youth, try some Static.
